Announcing our $13.4M Raise

Today, we’re thrilled to announce a $13.4 million round of fresh funding led by Balderton Capital, with participation from Inflection, Square One, Script Capital, Protocol Labs, Connect Ventures, New Forge, and Foreword VC.

Prominent angels from the web3 world also participated in the round, including Trent McConnaghy (Ocean), Jutta Steiner (Polka Dot), Luis Cuendo (Aragon), Adam Wiggins (Heroku, Muse), Peter von Hardenberg (Ink & Switch), Markus Ament (Centrifuge), and the Libermans Siblings (LibermansCo).

Since starting Anytype more than four years ago, we’ve been committed to a singular vision of an Internet where anyone could freely participate and build without sacrificing privacy, data, or ownership.

When raising this round, we were surprised by the high demand from investors, having been oversubscribed four times. As a result, we were in the fortunate position of choosing with whom to go further.

Our main criteria for partners were: original thinkers; people who practice first-principles; and values/cultural match, as shared values are the foundation for any meaningful cooperation. In a startup such as ours, it’s hard to expect immediate results and it was important to find partners aligned with our commitment to the long-term journey.

We are proud to have partnered with these fantastic supporters and especially happy to announce that Colin Hanna from Balderton will join the board of our organization, bringing his deep insight and expertise to our business (having been deeply involved in the product growth of SoundCloud).

This funding comes at an opportune time both in Anytype’s journey and in the scope of the digital landscape at large. Recent high-profile data leaks, abrupt changes in platform governance, and the rise of ever-more powerful AI, have made it abundantly clear how vulnerable we are to the whims of the software service providers with whom we trust our data.

We’re pleased to see that issues of digital privacy, security, and autonomy have begun to enter the mainstream conversation, which has only strengthened our resolve and commitment. Meanwhile, we welcome the emergence of other respected solutions in the space who are working to innovate and improve the decentralized web.

With this funding, we’re enabled to continue delivering on our promise of making digital sovereignty accessible through beautiful product experiences. We’ll do this by introducing the next frontiers of multiplayer and sharing in Anytype, inviting more contributors to participate in extending the product’s capabilities, and doubling down on intuitive & delightful UX.

We remain deeply committed to and grateful for our community of users, investors, and contributors.
