2024 in Review: A Recap of Our Biggest Releases
As the year draws to a close, we reflect on the big milestones for Anytype. We’ve taken bold steps to enhance our local first software and autonomous digital workspace, ensuring that every user feels empowered in their personal (and now collaborative!) knowledge management journey. A lot of significant work has been going on under the hood, and here are the most celebrated features we've shipped over the past year.
Multiplayer
With the introduction of multiplayer mode, we move beyond personal use into the world of collaborative spaces, building communities with trusted connections. We’ve introduced initial concepts for spaces designed for families, teams, neighbours and creators – reflecting how our own team has begun leveraging multiplayer in Anytype.
New Views to Widgets
Since widgets became the fundamental part of Anytype interface, we've provided new layouts for them. Now you can choose different views based on Set or Collection layout and create an object directly from the widget creation menu.
Files as Objects
A huge update for Anytype files: you can rename and add relations to your files, making it much easier to sort and manage images, videos, PDFs and other file formats. Pro tip: link files to objects by using the @mention or Link-to commands from your object editor.
Reuse Files
With this feature, you can incorporate existing files within file blocks in the editor.
Batch Relation Editing
A booster-feature that allows you to manage Tags and other Relations in multiple objects faster.
New Sync Status Indicator
Data security and reliability are two of the most important concepts in Anytype. Now you can see that Objects are backed up on the Anytype network along with the status of P2P connection with other devices, that are syncing data even without internet.
Inline LaTeX
We’re absolutely geeked to finally deliver this long-awaited feature to the community. You can now easily add mathematical notation right into your text, making it possible to include complex equations and formulas.
Version History
The complete picture of changes when working with objects is now visible. This is especially important for shared spaces, where changes are made by multiple space members at the same time. This is a huge base (and one of the biggest features) for the collaborative mode and for its further development.
All Objects
After interviewing people who are new to Anytype, we realised that initial concepts are misunderstood and questions arise: "Where can I find all my objects? I've just created a note, do I have to go to Graph?" Introducing a new place where you can find all objects defined by formats!
Simple Formulas
We know how long you've been asking for it. Now you can count objects and perform simple maths and aggregation functions with all types of relations. Available for Sets and Collections in the Grid view.
Date as an Object
You can now open any date as a separate object to view the entire context related to that date, including mentions (@date), automatically created dates and custom date relations. In addition, there are new Date and Time settings, and @date supports relative date formats such as @today or @tomorrow.
New Mobile Homescreen
When you have many spaces which are constantly updating. For example, you have 26 spaces in Anytype, and it is essential to be able to easily switch them. So for mobiles we introduced this new "space switcher". And it will evolve.
AnySync & AnyStore
User sovereignty, autonomy and privacy are foundational concepts. Two of the biggest achievements this year: updated AnySync Protocol that can support multiplayer now and brings this sovereignty, and AnyStore – a Local Object Store, which allows you to work much faster. This is the foundation for features that all of us are very much looking forward to, such as transclusion, database enhancements and messaging functionality.
2024 in Numbers
In addition to all the highlights from the last twelve months, our team has delivered 600+ bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements.
That's it for this year.
A special thank you to our community for the great involvement, for the numerous reports and for all the ideas and inspiration. We look forward to growing with you more next year. Happy holidays!
